Once upon a time there was a Moorish prince called Havis, who had a son whose
name was ben Havis. This all happened in the 11th century, and today the village
of Benahavis perpetuates this young man.
Despite being located up in the
mountains, the distance to the coast road is only 5 miles (7 kilometers).
Pretty, quaint, colourful and very very Spanish, Benahavis boasts all the
essentials for a holiday hideout - narrow cobbled streets, pretty houses, odd
shops here and there, restaurants in abundance (17, at the last count), bars, a large swimming pool, 2
banks, a butchers, a bakers, and many other pleasantries.
Princess Diana loved the village, and often visited the Goldsmith family at
their home very close by. |
